The Role
We are looking for a personable, process-driven and curious individual to join Kobalt Music's Copyright team in Nashville. The primary role of the Copyright Coordinator is to take ownership of essential tasks focused on ultimately ensuring our clients are paid when their songs are played on radio, TV or streamed online.
To be successful in the role, you need to have an interest and understanding in Music Publishing, and Copyright in particular. You'll be joining a collaborative and dedicated team working in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment where a high level attention to detail is essential. We are also looking for organizational and prioritization skills, as well as an inquisitive and curious mindset. What You’ll Do
- You are responsible for processes confirming the accurate registration of songs and publishing agreements that Kobalt represents on behalf of its clients around the world.
- You handle various queries from collection societies (PRS, ASCAP etc.) as well as sub-publishers (third-party publishers that handle Kobalt's repertoire in some countries) regarding claims to our catalog of songs.
- You provide support to colleagues within Kobalt in any registration-related processes.
What You’ll Bring
Preferred:
- You would need to demonstrate a solid understanding of music copyright and publishing as well as a working knowledge of operational Copyright processes.
- You are tech-savvy, analytical & have experience working with Excel crunching numbers or working with large data sets.
- You have strong communication skills: the duties require a very high level of communication internally and externally.
- You have a strong attention to detail and a detail-driven mind-set.
- You are a natural team-player and self-starter with a track record of excellent organization and prioritization skills.
- As some tasks involve working with data from societies worldwide, additional language skills are desirable, but not essential.
Additional Skills That Could Add Value:
- Familiarity with coding languages such as SQL are desirable, but not essential.
- Prior experience with tools such as Tabelau, Monday, Jira, helpful but not required.
What Success Looks Like
By Month 3: You will have learned how to navigate all internal systems and be able to independently find information regarding our rights around the globe. You will participate in projects that emphasize the importance of accurate registrations in order to generate revenues, including researching global society databases.
By Month 6: You will be actively involved in responding to queries about the Kobalt catalog from other companies across the industry. You will have successfully learned basic CWR terminology and understand the end-to-end process flow of song registrations.
By Year 1: Your responsibilities will have expanded beyond basic research and you are now able to proactively solve problems as it pertains to registrations and conflicts. You will contribute to process improvement and refinement in order to continually improve our service levels.
