COST ACCOUNTANT
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Cost Accountant will prepare month-end inventory reports, oversee, and analyze inventory, update, and manage overhead rates, review and analyze customer and part margins within the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded as management determines necessary.
Inventory
- Process inventory transactions for all locations (PIT)
- Review variances during and at month end. Provide reports to management of large monthly variances.
- Prepare inventory journal entries.
- Reconcile all inventory accounts, including inventory receipts, timely with period closings.
- Prepare reserves for obsolete inventory - quarterly.
- Monitor the cycle count program ? if weaknesses are noted, make suggestions as needed.
Standard cost/Overhead & Labor Rates / BOM
- Develop, update, and implement cost center overhead rates.
- Work to improve report of clean room costs and impact on rates.
- Update fully loaded labor rates, after all major payroll adjustments
- Perform monthly and periodic rolling of purchased and manufactured costs. Analyze any changes in the cost of purchased items or outside mfg. services to determine what effect it has on costs. Make updates or changes as needed.
- Prepare ?net change? impact reports as appropriate.
- Understand how BOM?s are maintained and the impact on cost.
- Have a working knowledge of production reporting and its effect on inventory.
Margin/cost analysis
- Updated outsource costs (i.e., APP) and other freight costs as needed (i.e., freight cost elements)
- Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs, showing major variances to standards, making suggestions for corrections of BOMs, or need for pricing review.
- Analyze cost of product sales (margin analysis), investigate unusual items, and recommend changes in BOMs, or potential for margin improvements (i.e., need for price increases)
Other
- Comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for financial statements.
- Assist in review/audits and general ledger preparation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):
Bachelor?s degree in accounting or related field
Sound understanding of accounting principles.
Solid cost systems background
Healthy skepticism, being aware of unusual items.
Analytical thinker with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills
Meticulous attention to detail with superb organizational skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent report-writing, communication, and IT skills
