MLB's Department of Investigations is looking for a Counsel responsible for assisting with confidential and highly sensitive investigations related to players, umpires, and baseball personnel as directed.
Responsibilities
- Investigate allegations related to performance-enhancing substances, domestic violence, sexual assault, gambling, off-field misconduct, and other violations of baseball rules and policies
- Conduct interviews throughout the United States and internationally, primarily in the Dominican Republic
- Draft detailed investigative reports, interview summaries, and other documentation related to investigations
- Liaise with local, state, and federal law enforcement entities about ongoing investigations
- Review and analyze documents, text messages, emails, and legal filings
- Work with analysts to gather and analyze publicly available information, including government records, social media, and news reports
- Assist with hotline management, including issue response
- Conduct legal research as needed
- Assist Clubs with certain internal investigations as directed
Qualifications & Skills
- Fluency in Spanish (oral and written) strongly preferred but not required
- J.D. and a minimum of two years of legal experience required
- This position is based in New York City and requires in-office attendance five days per week
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; familiarity with Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to manage deliverables with time-sensitive deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Intermittent domestic and international travel required, at times on short notice
Salary Range: $180,000 - $200,000 (Base Salary) + Bonus
