Crossbred/Beef Cattle Livestock Technician
SUMMARY:
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Livestock Technician to assist with the health management and processing of our crossbred cattle herd. This role involves tracking vaccine and implant records, assisting in herd handling, and administering health treatments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with livestock and a strong understanding of animal health protocols.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Record Management:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all cattle vaccinations, implants, and treatments.
- Input and manage data using livestock management software or manual logs as needed.
- Coordinate with management to ensure compliance with herd health protocols.
- Farm Visits:
- Travel to the farm/ranch regularly for cattle processing days and scheduled health checks.
- Communicate with farm/ranch personnel to coordinate processing schedules and ensure readiness.
- Cattle Processing:
- Assist in moving and sorting cattle through the chute system safely and efficiently.
- Administer vaccines and implants according to veterinary guidelines and ranch protocols.
- Monitor cattle for health concerns during handling and report any issues promptly.
- Health & Safety:
- Follow and enforce safety procedures for working around large animals and handling medical equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper storage of equipment and medications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with cattle, preferably in a beef or crossbred operation.
- Knowledge of cattle handling, health, and vaccination protocols.
- Ability to safely administer injections and implants.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience using livestock management software, preferred.
- Veterinary technician or animal science background is a plus.
- BQA (Beef Quality Assurance) certification or willingness to obtain.
_ PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:_
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Standing, walking, and working on your feet for extended periods.
- Working in close proximity to large animals in a potentially high-stress environment.
