Job Purpose:

The Cybersecurity Penetration Tester Specialist performs hands-on security assessments of mobile applications, web applications, Android devices, networks, and infrastructure components. This role is suited for professionals with demonstrated experience in penetration testing who can take ownership of testing activities with minor guidance. The Specialist contributes to vulnerability discovery, remediation recommendations, and knowledge sharing with junior team members, while continuing to deepen their technical expertise and assessment capabilities.


Essential Duties

  • Conduct penetration testing and vulnerability assessments of applications, operating systems, networks, and mobile devices with limited guidance.
  • Plan and execute common phases of testing such as reconnaissance, scanning, exploitation, and post-exploitation activities.
  • Identify, validate, and document security vulnerabilities and misconfigurations in various environments.
  • Contribute to security assessment reports, including clear descriptions of findings and actionable remediation recommendations.
  • Assist in developing and refining internal testing methodologies, tools, and documentation.
  • Stay current on emerging threats, tools, and attack techniques through ongoing research and training.
  • Support the automation of routine testing tasks and assist in scripting or tool customization.
  • Collaborate with developers, system administrators, and security teams to explain findings and support remediation efforts.
  • Provide informal mentorship to junior team members by sharing knowledge and offering support during engagements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Solid understanding of penetration testing methodologies, networking, operating systems, and common vulnerabilities.
  • Hands-on experience with common security tools (e.g., Nmap, Burp Suite, Metasploit, Wireshark, etc.).
  • Ability to independently execute testing tasks and analyze results, with minimal guidance.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to clearly document technical findings and communicate them to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively across multiple assignments.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving technologies, threats, and testing techniques.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with internal teams and provide support to junior testers when needed.
  • Demonstrated accountability and ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 2-4 years of experience in penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, or related information security disciplines.
  • Hands-on experience performing security assessments of applications, systems, networks, or mobile platforms.
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as PTES, MITRE ATT&CK, or OWASP.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar).
  • Working knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux, Android), networking protocols, and cloud environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Related field, with equivalent demonstrated work experience and industry-standard certifications.
  • Prior experience working on a cybersecurity penetration testing team or in a formal security testing capacity.
  • Industry-recognized certifications such as OSCP, CPTS, GPEN, eMAPT, eCPPT, eWPT, or CEH are strongly preferred.
  • Combination of specialized IT certifications (e.g., MCSE, RHCE, cloud provider certs) alongside security certifications is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and a variety of office equipment.
  • Occasionally need to reach, stoop, or kneel.
