The Development Officer plays a pivotal role in advancing our mission by managing a portfolio of individual donors giving $5,000+ annually. This position focuses on building and deepening relationships with individual supporters, with an emphasis on strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
This frontline fundraising role is ideal for a proactive, relationship-driven professional who thrives in a performance-based culture and is motivated by impact. In addition to portfolio management, the Development Officer supports the engagement of a Regional Council of high-level community volunteers, helping connect them to the Food Bank’s mission and fundraising priorities.
As part of a high-performing team committed to fundraising excellence, this role directly contributes to revenue growth and long-term donor pipeline development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Major Gifts Fundraising (80%)
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 125–150 individual donors and prospects with the capacity to give $5,000+ annually.
- Develop and execute tailored cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to grow relationships and increase giving.
- Conduct personal donor visits, prepare customized proposals and communications, and track outcomes.
- Collaborate with senior leadership, program staff, and volunteers to deepen donor engagement.
- Maintain accurate and timely donor records in Raiser’s Edge NXT and meet or exceed quarterly performance metrics.
Collaboration & Organizational Support (20%)
- Support the engagement of the Regional Council in collaboration with the Director of Development, including meeting preparation, follow-up, and coordinating occasional involvement in donor cultivation activities.
- Partner with the Annual Fund, Philanthropy Operations, and Corporate and Foundation teams to deliver coordinated and impactful donor experiences.
- Participate in development team meetings, strategic planning sessions, and Food Bank events.
- Assist with campaign efforts, regional engagement opportunities, and other fundraising initiatives as needed.
KEY SUCCESS METRICS
- Number and quality of donor engagements (visits, calls, personalized touches)
- Total dollars solicited and secured from assigned portfolio
- Donor retention and upgrade rates
- Regional Council engagement and participation
- Contribution to overall fundraising goals and donor experience metrics
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience in fundraising, relationship management, or community engagement; major gift experience preferred
- Proven ability to manage a portfolio and secure gifts of $5,000+
- Experience working with high-level volunteers or advisory groups a plus
