Position Summary
The Director of Development and Marketing is responsible for advancing the visibility, credibility, and sustainability of Front Steps Services by leading donor engagement, annual fund strategy, event planning, and marketing communications. This position plays a key role in building meaningful relationships with donors and stakeholders while shaping the organization’s narrative and public presence.
Working collaboratively with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Grant Writer, this position ensures alignment between individual giving, grants, branding, and outreach. The Director will manage a donor portfolio, develop internal and external messaging, oversee campaigns and events, and lead the integration of fundraising and communications systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Portfolio Management, Donor Relations, and Prospect Development
- Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors, sponsors, vendors, and community partners.
- Manage a donor portfolio with a focus on donors capable of increasing giving to major gift levels.
- Collaborate with the leadership to maintain a strong donor pipeline and align engagement strategies.
- Conduct donor research and develop tailored stewardship plans and engagement strategies.
- Manage donor communications including solicitations, thank-you letters, updates, and reports.
- Utilize the Little Green Light CRM to track all donor activity and manage a moves management system.
Fund Development
- Lead and implement strategies to grow the annual fund and overall donor base.
- Support fundraising outreach efforts in coordination with leadership and board engagement.
- Collaborate with the CEO, COO, and Grant Writer to align fundraising strategy with institutional funding and organizational priorities.
- Help establish performance measures and evaluate the effectiveness of all giving strategies.
- Stay current on trends in philanthropy, donor engagement, and nonprofit fundraising.
Events
- Plan and execute fundraising events including timelines, budgets, vendor management, and donor experiences.
- Develop event-related collateral and communications in partnership with the leadership and marketing teams.
- Recommend and pilot new events to engage wider audiences and cultivate new supporters.
- Monitor and report on event ROI and audience engagement.
Marketing and Communications
- Lead and implement the organization’s marketing and communications strategy.
- Develop compelling content for campaigns, newsletters, social media, appeals, and public materials.
- Partner with the CEO and COO to ensure consistent messaging across all external channels.
- Manage social media presence, email marketing tools, and web updates to build awareness and drive action.
- Ensure brand integrity across all communication platforms, print materials, and outreach strategies.
- Collaborate with internal departments to align messaging with program goals and outcomes.
Administrative and Operational Duties
- Serve as the lead administrator of the Little Green Light CRM for tracking gifts, communications, and constituent engagement.
- Ensure accurate donor data entry, acknowledgment, and reporting.
- Track marketing analytics, donor trends, and campaign results.
- Support the development of board materials and strategic communication tools.
- Prepare ad hoc reports and provide regular data analysis for leadership decision-making.
Financial Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and monitoring the organization’s fundraising and marketing budgets.
- Prepare event budgets, forecasts, and post-event financial reports.
Education, Experience, and Licenses
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit management, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, and marketing roles.
- Demonstrated success in donor cultivation, event planning, and campaign execution.
- Prior experience in behavioral health or healthcare organizations preferred.
- Experience with donor databases and CRM systems (Little Green Light preferred).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong writing and communication skills with a persuasive and professional style.
- Proven ability to build relationships, steward donors, and work across teams.
- Skilled in managing multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines.
- Knowledge of digital marketing platforms, campaign tools, and content creation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, donor management systems, and social media platforms.
Working Conditions
- Standard weekday work schedule with occasional evenings and weekends for events.

- Extended periods of sitting, standing, computer use, and telephone communication.
- Occasional lifting or movement of materials up to 15 pounds.
