The Director of Simulation Laboratory administers learning resources by working with assigned personnel and nursing faculty. Student learning outcomes will be achieved through the integration and evaluation of simulation and clinical skills utilizing approved nursing methodologies and protocols. This position reports to the Dean of Nursing Education Programs.
Responsibilities
- Using approved simulation cases and teaching protocols, implement and evaluate student learning in collaboration with nursing faculty.
- Recruits and interviews potential simulation laboratory faculty and makes recommendations for appointment, promotion, retention, or termination as appropriate to the Dean of Nursing Education Programs.
- Supervises and evaluates simulation laboratory faculty in accordance with policies of the College and the standards of applicable regulatory bodies.
- Provide orientation to simulation laboratory to nursing faculty, nursing students, staff and others as needed.
- Maintains written policy and procedure for use of simulation laboratory including protocols for all simulated laboratory learning activities.
- Schedules and coordinates simulated laboratory learning activities for nursing.
- Maintains contact with the EA Simulation Council and Director of Simulation to remain current in integrating simulated learning experiences into the curriculum as approved by the Curriculum Committee.
- Orders equipment and supplies needed for the operation of the simulation lab.
- Establish schedule to manage simulation labs.
- Maintain accurate, complete and timely records of student participation for all simulation laboratory practica.
- Oversees and contributes to the evaluation of students during campus skills and simulation activities.
- Ensures submission of monthly simulation reports to the campus Dean and National Director of Nursing Operations.
- Participates in faculty meetings, attending graduation ceremonies and other College activities, faculty recognition programs, staff development offerings, in-services programs and task forces/committees as needed or assigned.
- Assume responsibility for ongoing continuing education including maintaining professional Standard of Healthcare Simulation Certification.
- Participates in the Curriculum Committee to assure effective integration of simulation in the curriculum.
- Provide input for budget preparation regarding equipment, supplies and materials for simulation lab.
- Adheres to all policies, procedures, and expectations stated in college catalog, student, faculty and employee handbooks.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse with current unencumbered license in the State of Colorado or multistate privilege to practice in the State
- Master of Science in Nursing degree (doctoral degree preferred)
- Minimum of three years of professional nursing experience
- Recent classroom and clinical experience in area of specialty as required by accrediting bodies and in nursing education
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, and through learning technologies such as computers and e-mail
- Ability to work effectively with staff, faculty, and students as a member of a team
- Educational skills and ability to work with diverse student population
- Completed EA simulation training
- Comfort with technology and ability to do basic troubleshooting of simulation equipment including camera system, software, and basic external parts of the simulator mannequins.
