Dispatcher – Growth Opportunity with Sutton Trucking LLC
Sutton Trucking LLC is seeking a full-time dispatcher who thrives on solving problems, supporting drivers and customers, and taking pride in a job well done. This is not a typical 9–5 role—it requires flexibility, initiative, and a team-first attitude. If you're someone who says, “let’s figure it out” instead of “we can’t,” we want to hear from you.
We’re a dry bulk pneumatic trucking company that’s grown from 30 to over 140 employees in the last six years. That growth continues, and we’re looking for someone who’s ready to grow with us—not just professionally, but as a potential leader within our dispatch team.
What You’ll Do
- Dispatch 20–40 trucks daily across multiple regions, managing complex routing with varied loading and unloading locations.
- Enter customer orders into the dispatching system and ensure accurate scheduling.
- Maintain constant communication with drivers, customers, and fellow dispatchers to ensure smooth operations and quick problem-solving.
- Coordinate with the shop to schedule and complete fleet maintenance and repairs.
- Monitor live fleet tracking via Samsara to manage delivery performance, identify HOS issues, and anticipate delays.
- Ensure DOT compliance, including tracking hours of service, medical certificates, and driver qualifications.
- Maintain accurate records of fleet activity, training logs, and driver schedules.
- Use Excel for tracking and reporting, both independently and within Microsoft Teams.
- Respond promptly and professionally to breakdowns, delays, or last-minute changes.
- Provide high-level customer service through timely updates and clear communication.
- Support the dispatch team beyond your shift when needed—because our customers and drivers rely on us.
What We’re Looking For
- A problem-solver who finds satisfaction in getting things done right and thrives in fast-paced environments.
- Someone who takes accountability seriously—recognizing that while we’re a team, each dispatcher owns their region and their drivers.
- A quick learner who absorbs information by doing—picking up both best practices and common pitfalls through hands-on experience
- Able to juggle conversations with drivers, customers, and other dispatchers while staying responsive and composed.
- Communicates professionally—even when the outcome isn’t ideal—and knows how to deliver tough updates with clarity and respect.
- A team member who could grow into a management role and help guide our dispatch team.
- Maintains professionalism and empathy, especially in high-stress situations.
- Understands that dispatching doesn’t stop at 4:00—occasional evening problem-solving may be needed when issues arise.
- Willing to participate in a rotating weekend schedule to monitor dispatch calls and support drivers in the field. We value work-life balance and share responsibilities outside core hours to help each other stay rested and supported.
Bonus Skills (Not Required, But Valued)
- Experience: 2–4 years in dispatch, logistics, or transportation preferred.
We’re looking for someone who brings operational insight and practical experience to the table. If you’ve coordinated drivers, solved problems on the fly, and kept things running smoothly, your background is what matters most.
- Familiarity with dispatch software (e.g., Samsara, PCS - Transportation Management System)
- Comfortable collaborating in Microsoft Teams, including sharing files, updating spreadsheets, and communicating across channels
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and fleet compliance
