Position Overview
We are seeking qualified and professional Freelance American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters to join our growing team. The interpreter will provide on-site and remote interpretation services for clients in a variety of settings, ensuring accurate and confidential communication between Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals and service providers.
Responsibilities
- Provide accurate, clear, and culturally appropriate interpretation in American Sign Language and spoken English
- Interpret in diverse settings including healthcare, legal, education, business, and community appointments
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and ethical standards
- Prepare for assignments by reviewing terminology and subject matter as needed
- Communicate effectively with the MALS scheduling team regarding availability, assignment details, and client needs
- Submit completed timesheets or invoices promptly after each assignment
Qualifications
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English
- RID certification or state licensure strongly preferred (KQAS accepted)
- Minimum of 2 years of professional interpreting experience (preferred)
- Familiarity with ethical standards and confidentiality requirements
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and adapt to a variety of environments
- Reliable transportation for on-site assignments (mileage reimbursed per IRS rate)
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
