Job Title: Barista & Cake Packaging (Front of House)
Position Overview: As a Barista & Cake Packaging team member, you will play a pivotal role in delivering an exceptional customer experience at our café. You will be responsible for preparing and serving a variety of coffee and tea beverages, as well as packaging cakes and baked goods for our customers. Your attention to detail, ability to multitask, and friendly demeanor will help create a welcoming atmosphere for guests while ensuring the highest standards of quality and presentation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Barista Duties:
- Prepare and serve high-quality coffee, espresso-based drinks, teas, and other beverages according to company recipes and customer preferences.
- Operate coffee machines, grinders, and other equipment, ensuring proper cleaning and maintenance.
- Maintain knowledge of the menu and offer suggestions to customers on beverages and seasonal specials.
- Take customer orders, process payments, and efficiently handle cash register transactions.
- Create a positive and inviting environment for customers through friendly communication and excellent customer service.
- Ensure that drinks are prepared in a timely manner, while maintaining consistency and quality.
- Monitor inventory levels for coffee beans, syrups, milk, and other supplies, and inform the supervisor when stock is running low.
2. Cake & Pastry Packaging:
- Package cakes, pastries, and baked goods neatly and securely for customers, ensuring that they are well-presented and ready for takeout.
- Ensure proper labeling of products, including ingredient lists, allergen information, and expiration dates where applicable.
- Maintain a clean and organized pastry display, ensuring that products are rotated and stocked for easy access.
- Work closely with kitchen staff to ensure freshly baked items are promptly packaged and ready for customer pick-up.
- Offer suggestions and assist customers in choosing from the cake and pastry menu.
3. Customer Service:
- Greet customers warmly as they enter and exit the café, making them feel welcome and valued.
- Handle customer inquiries, concerns, and feedback with patience, empathy, and professionalism.
- Maintain a clean and inviting atmosphere by keeping the front of house tidy, including wiping down counters, tables, and the pastry display.
- Collaborate with colleagues to create a smooth workflow during busy periods.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures, including setting up the café and cleaning at the end of the day.
4. Health & Safety:
- Adhere to health and safety regulations, ensuring cleanliness and food safety standards are consistently met.
- Follow proper food handling practices when handling cakes, pastries, and beverages.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations, including the coffee bar, packaging area, and customer-facing spaces.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous barista or customer service experience is preferred, but not required.
- A passion for coffee and food, with a willingness to learn and grow.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with customers effectively.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask efficiently.
- Attention to detail, particularly when it comes to beverage preparation and packaging.
- A positive attitude and the ability to work well within a team.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs (cakes, boxes, etc.).
- Ability to handle and move hot beverages and equipment safely.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $17.07 per hour
