Oregon Episcopal School seeks a Lower School Assistant & Extension teacher to begin duties in August 2025.

JOB SUMMARY: This full-time role is a combined position, with 50% of responsibilities in the Lower School (LS) as a classroom assistant teacher and 50% in the Extension program as an after-school teacher.
In the LS, the assistant teacher supports classroom instruction by working directly with students under the guidance of a lead teacher, helping to implement curriculum and maintain a positive, productive classroom environment. In the Extension program, the teacher leads engaging after-school activities for groups of students, collaborates with teammates to uphold high program standards, and ensures alignment with Extension Department guidelines, OES policies, and Oregon Office of Child Care regulations.

The ideal candidate will bring cultural competence, a passion for working with elementary-aged children, and a collaborative, upbeat, and inclusive approach to their work.

  • Status: Full-time, non-exempt, salaried

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • During the school day, support the Classroom teacher in classroom planning, preparation, instruction supervision, and documentation of student learning. After School, support the curriculum and program development of grade-specific cohorts.
  • During Extension, design and support the curriculum and program development of grade-specific cohorts in planning, preparation, instruction supervision, and documentation of student learning
  • Work with students in various settings - large group, small group, and individually
  • Provide careful and concentrated supervision of gathering and common areas to ensure students’ safety
  • Recognize, respect, and promote the cultural differences and diversity of the individuals in the program and community.
  • Provide a caring environment with respect for students’ individual differences
  • Maintain and clean all shared supplies, equipment, and facilities
  • Collaborate positively with other members of the school community
  • Attend orientation, staff meetings, and training sessions as required
  • Pursue a minimum 15 hours of professional development every year
  • Maintain current Child Care Division Central Background Registry, Food Handler, CPR/First Aid certifications, and professional development hours in Oregon Registry Online (ORO)
  • Attend other events as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AA or equivalent two-year degree or a combination of training and experience
  • Experience working in a school-aged educational setting
  • Strong background in current social-emotional learning practices
  • Intercultural competence, ability to interact appropriately with students, coworkers, family members of all backgrounds and identities, ability to lead diverse groups of students effectively
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion
  • IT skills: general digital literacy, facility with applications as appropriate to job duties
  • Ability to enroll in Oregon Office of Child Care Central Background Registry
  • Ability to obtain Food Handlers certificate and CPR and First Aid certification
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BA/BS or equivalent in relevant discipline
  • Strong background in social-emotional learning practices
  • Knowledge of or experience in Reggio-inspired schools


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster collaborative, collegial relationships with colleagues and community members.
  • Ability to create and maintain a warm, inclusive, and supportive environment where all students feel valued and can thrive.
  • Proficiency with digital tools and basic computer skills necessary to effectively support instruction, communication, and program operations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to sit at computer and keyboard for moderate periods
  • Mobility sufficient to move about the campus, to include climbing stairs
  • Sight and hearing adequate to perform the duties of the job, ability to communicate clearly
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis
