Job Description - Lead Preschool Teacher
Provide excellent care for all children. Implement weekly themes, lesson plans, and daily activities, and supervise children's activities. Maintain all certifications as required. Ensure compliance with all applicable rules and regulations of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
Required Qualifications: At least 25 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent. Have acquired one or two years of college with coursework in early childhood education. Four years of experience working with school-age children in a home or center setting.
Preferred Qualifications: At least 25 years of age. Associates or B.A ./B.S. in early childhood education; six or more years of experience working with preschool children in a center setting.
Training Requirements:
Within the first 90 days of employment, teaching staff must (According to Maine Child Care Licensing requirements):
-Adult and Child CPR/First Aid Training Certificate, including an in-person assessment.
- Complete the background check process: All childcare providers in Maine must request that all their employees have a background check. A professional will take your fingerprints at a fingerprinting facility. We recommend the Waterville location. Use https://www.identogo.com/ to set a time and date. They will then forward the fingerprints to the State Bureau of Identification to check the required registries, repositories, and databases. Once your fingerprints are processed, the department shall provide the background check results by sending you a Childcare Provider Letter of Eligibility and a Staff Member Letter of Eligibility. Both letters are sent directly to the individual, indicating eligibility or ineligibility within 45 days of the request being submitted. Employees must provide their childcare provider with a letter of eligibility before employment begins. Background checks must be requested at least once every five years for each individual requiring a background check under the Background Check Licensing Rule.- Complete fingerprinting. Receive your Adult and Child CPR and First Aid training certificate. Maine Child Care Licensing requires in-person training, but will also accept a hybrid model. SSEC will pay for your training.- Register with the Maine Roads to Quality Professional Development Network- Complete the FREE health and safety training that the Maine Roads to Quality Professional Development Network provides.
- Complete a department-approved mandated reporter training.
*Employees who complete the initial training within the first three months of their hire will receive a $275 bonus and will be paid for the hours they spend training.
Child Care Benefits:
As part of our gratefulness for your hard work and loyalty to our company, SSEC staff member’s children may participate in any of our programs at a reduced rate as long as there is adequate room in the program, the waiting list isn’t extensive, their attendance will not create an unnecessary distraction to the employee, and the needs of the child(ren) does not require a fundamental alteration of the program or extensive services/auxiliary aides that overtax our current staff and resources. Staff Schedule: 7:00 am - 5:30 pm (4:30 pm on days with lower ratios). One-hour paid lunch/planning break daily.
We follow the same snow day protocols as local schools. If local schools are closed due to a weather event, SSEC will be closed.
Time Off:
- After working for one full year, you may take two paid weeks off with prior notice (as long as coverage is found).
- In the first year, seven paid sick days are compensated; days will be added annually
2025-26 Paid Closure Dates New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, the Friday before Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and the day after Christmas.
