Niyam is seeking a GIS Analyst Associate to join our team in support of our work with one of our federal clients.
This position is setup for remote work within the United States. The GIS Analyst Associate supports geospatial projects by collecting, managing, and analyzing spatial data, contributing to mapping applications, and creating visualizations to aid decision-making. This role focuses on foundational GIS tasks, working closely with the team to ensure data integrity and deliver quality insights.
Role and Responsibilities
- Data Collection and Preparation: Collect and preprocess geospatial and tabular data from various sources, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Data Management: Organize and maintain geospatial datasets in databases to support project needs and ensure accessibility.
- Mapping and Visualization: Create maps and visualizations using tools like ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or equivalent software to present spatial information effectively.
- Basic Geospatial Analysis: Perform spatial analysis tasks to support project objectives and uncover basic trends and patterns.
- Workflow Support: Assist with automating simple processes using tools like ModelBuilder, Python, or SQL under guidance from senior staff.
- Collaboration: Work closely with team members and contribute to cross-functional projects.
- Quality Control: Conduct checks to ensure data accuracy and adherence to project requirements.
- Professional Growth: Stay informed about GIS tools and industry trends to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Time Management: Handle assigned tasks efficiently, meeting deadlines and maintaining high attention to detail.
- Business Development: Participate in Niyam IT business development activities.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
- US Citizenship.
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Data Science or related field.
- Relevant coursework or a GIS certificate is a plus but not required.
- Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online).
- Basic knowledge of spatial data collection, analysis, and map production.
- Exposure to programming tools (e.g., Python, SQL) or visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is preferred.
- Basic quantitative and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a problem-solving mindset.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tools and technologies.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with hydraulic and hydrologic data.
- Familiarity with natural hazard geospatial work.
- Python scripting skills or an interest in automation and workflow improvement.
- Experience with cloud GIS, ArcGIS Online, or web-based mapping applications.
- Awareness of tools or concepts from data science, machine learning, or remote sensing.
- Interest in community resilience, hazard mitigation planning, or emergency management.
- Masters, GIS certification (e.g., GISP) or additional coursework in GIS tools and methodologies.
