Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator to join our construction team. This position involves operating a variety of heavy machinery—including excavators, dozers, loaders, and compactors—to perform grading, trenching, backfilling, and site preparation on residential, commercial, and civil construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate and maintain heavy equipment including backhoes, excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and compactors.
- Understand and follow markings from survey stakes, GPS, and/or grade checkers.
- Ensure work is performed to proper elevations and slope tolerances
- Perform daily pre-operation inspections of equipment to ensure it is in good working condition.
- Ensure proper usage of equipment, following all safety protocols and guidelines to minimize risk of injury.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, crew members, and other contractors to ensure smooth operations and project progress.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and job site progress.
- Respond to emergencies, such as equipment breakdowns or utility failures, quickly and efficiently.
- Perform general site maintenance tasks, including cleaning and organizing equipment and tools.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, excavators, bulldozers, and compactors
- Ability to read and understand grades and slope requirements
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and project specifications.
- Experience working on utility or concrete prep scopes is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot equipment and operational issues.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant certifications in heavy equipment operation
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience with GPS-guided equipment or other advanced machinery technologies.
