We are seeking an excellent Host / Maitre D' for our new performance venue, Unit B by Chocolate Maven. The first and lasting impression of our restaurant, the Host / Maître D’ sets the tone for every guest’s dining experience. This role combines the warmth and attentiveness of a host with the leadership and orchestration of a maître d’, depending on experience and placement. We are looking for individuals with professionalism, charm, and strong communication skills who can create a welcoming environment while ensuring the dining room operates smoothly and elegantly.
Unit B is generally open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 5:30 - 9:30. Shifts are typically from 4:00 pm - 10:00 pm. We are occasionally open on Wednesdays and Sundays, and flexibility to cover those days would be important as well.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and welcome guests warmly, setting a positive tone for their visit.
- Manage reservations, walk-ins, and waitlists with efficiency and accuracy.
- Escort guests to tables with grace and assist in seating arrangements.
- Oversee the flow of the dining room, ensuring guest satisfaction and timely service.
- Act as a liaison between guests, servers, and the kitchen to support seamless communication.
- Anticipate guest needs and handle special requests, VIPs, and concerns with professionalism and discretion.
- Train, guide, and support front-of-house staff in hospitality standards (for maître d’ level).
- Maintain ambiance, cleanliness, and presentation of the entryway and dining room.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of menu items, wine list, and restaurant offerings to assist guests when needed.
Qualifications
- Previous hospitality or customer-facing experience required; fine dining or leadership experience preferred for maître d’ candidates.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm, composed, and elegant under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Polished, professional appearance and demeanor.
- Familiarity with reservation systems and hospitality software a plus.
