Job Overview
The Housing Specialist plays a vital role in assisting individuals and families in securing stable housing. This position involves working closely with clients to navigate the complexities of housing options, including public assistance programs such as Section 8. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of landlord-tenant law, fair housing regulations, and property management practices. The Housing Specialist will also provide crisis intervention and support services to clients facing housing instability.
Duties
- Assist clients in identifying and securing affordable housing options, including LIHTC properties and Section 8 vouchers.
- Conduct thorough assessments to understand client needs and develop tailored housing plans.
- Negotiate lease agreements and mediate disputes between landlords and tenants.
- Provide education on fair housing regulations and tenant rights to clients.
- Collaborate with social service agencies to connect clients with additional support services, including addiction counseling and crisis management resources.
- Keep accurate progress Notes.
- Ability to Utilize HMIS's and other Platforms as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress using property management software.
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to empower clients in their housing search and decision-making processes.
- Stay informed about local housing market trends and available resources to effectively assist clients.
Requirements
- Proven experience in social work, property management, or a related field.
- Knowledge of Section 8 programs, landlord-tenant law, and fair housing regulations is essential.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to advocate for clients effectively.
- Experience in crisis intervention and management, with a focus on supporting individuals facing housing instability.
- Familiarity with addiction counseling practices is preferred but not mandatory.
- Proficient in using property management software.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport with diverse populations.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $28.50 - $30.50 per hour
