Job Summary
The Kennel Attendant plays a vital role in the daily care, safety, and well-being of the animals in our facility. This position involves direct animal care, cleaning and sanitizing kennels, providing medications as directed, and engaging with both the public and fellow team members in a professional and compassionate manner. Candidates must be comfortable working with large dogs, and assisting with basic medical care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily care to dogs, including feeding, watering, enrichment, and exercise
- Clean, sanitize, and maintain kennels, play yards, and common areas
- Safely handle dogs of all sizes, including large and high-energy breeds
- Monitor and report any signs of illness, behavioral concerns, or injuries
- Interact respectfully and helpfully with members of the public during adoptions, meet-and-greets, or tours
- Assist in animal intake and assessments as needed
- Restock supplies and maintain a clean, organized environment
- Follow all safety and sanitation protocols to prevent disease transmission
- Support shelter team members and assist where needed
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older
- Comfortable handling large dogs.
- Ability to interact professionally with the public, staff, and volunteers
- Previous animal care experience preferred but not required
- Basic understanding of animal behavior and safe handling techniques
- Reliable, self-motivated, and compassionate
Work Environment
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, animal waste, noise, and animal hair
- Indoor and outdoor work environment
- Fast-paced, team-oriented setting.
