SUMMARY
Labette Health is seeking an experienced, hands-on Laboratory Manager to lead our laboratory at our Independence campus. This role blends day-to-day management with bench-level testing—perfect for a Medical Technologist who enjoys both people leadership and direct patient-care impact.
Essential Duties
- Oversee daily operations – workflow, test prioritization, quality control
- Perform bench testing
- supervise staff – hire, schedule, coach, and evaluate a team of MT/MLS, MLT, and phlebotomy professionals; foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Ensure regulatory compliance – maintain CLIA, CAP, CMS, and state standards; prepare for inspections and implement corrective actions.
- Drive quality initiatives – analyze QC/QA data, troubleshoot instrument issues, and collaborate with medical staff to optimize patient care.
- Manage budget & resources – monitor expenses, recommend capital purchases, and coordinate vendor relationships.
- Serve as lab liaison – communicate effectively with physicians, nursing, and ancillary departments; represent the lab on hospital committees.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field.
- Certification as MT/MLS/MLT (ASCP or equivalent) required.
- Minimum three (3) years of recent clinical laboratory experience; at least one (1) year in a charge, lead, or supervisory capacity preferred.
- Demonstrated competency across core laboratory disciplines and strong troubleshooting skills.
- Working knowledge of CLIA, CAP, or equivalent accreditation standards.
- Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and conflict-resolution abilities—comfortable leading a small, close-knit team.
- Ability to participate in limited on-call rotation for after-hours operational needs.
