Job Description

Are you a professionally licensed Land Surveyor? If yes, we are looking for someone to help compile and analyze data and evidence obtained from research and field measurements in Northwest Iowa as our newest Land Surveyor. You will work with the land surveyor senior and the development engineer to direct and coordinate the District Survey activities.

: Sioux City or Cherokee Office Resident Construction Office

Shift Requirements
: Monday – Thursday, 6:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., some daytime travel required.

As a Land Surveyor
, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Studying land surveying laws and legal principles on determining the re-establishment of real property boundaries to coordinate the district right-of-way department field survey activities.
  • Maintaining and operating survey instruments, specialized electronic equipment such as the total station, data collector, and Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver to perform survey project field reconnaissance. Operates specialized computer software such as coordinate geometry (COGO), computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), and data collection editors.
  • Finding information sources to be consulted in determining land ownership and location of land corners, reads and understands engineering plans and specifications to assure the quality of survey information obtained is adequate to prepare survey documents
  • Using CADD to draw detailed plats of areas surveyed. Completes mathematical, algebra, and trigonometry calculations necessary to close survey configurations.
  • Inspecting completed and in-progress work for accuracy, compliance with standards, and other criteria
  • Lead the field survey crew in land, topographic, and construction survey activities, research of survey and land records contained in county courthouses, city offices, and private engineering and land surveying firms.
  • Review and prepare public land corner certificates as required in Iowa Code, Chapter 114A.11.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must possess and maintain a Professional License in Land Surveying issued by the Iowa Engineering and Land Surveying Board.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Iowa Class C Non-Commercial Driver's License.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Possession of a current professional land surveyors license as issued by the Iowa Board of Engineering and Land Surveying.
