Job Summary:
A Buyer in procurement in an automotive manufacturing company is responsible for strategically sourcing materials and services, negotiating favorable agreements, and managing relationships with suppliers. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, a focus on cost analysis, and attention to quality and compliance standards to ensure a reliable and efficient supply chain. In addition, this position is responsible for scheduling a two-week rolling schedule, within CMS based on customer requirements. They are responsible for ensuring that the schedules are level loaded and are within capacity restraints.
Job Responsibilities:
Your supervisor may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in this job description. This job's key responsibilities include:
- Maintain two weeks rolling schedule and react to any volatility from the end customer.
- Monitor production progress daily and analyze data to identify causes of variances.
- Verify that safety stock levels of finished goods are maintained. Prepare analyses for new product introduction (NPI) and end of life (EOL) products and review strategy with Buyer Planners, Commodity Buyers, GM, Production MGR and Engineering Change Coordinator to avoid obsolescence.
- Provide administrative and technical support necessary to facilitate the smooth and efficient operation of the Engineering Change Management System. Maintain communications with other departments in the plant, as well as corporate engineering, to understand change level management and obsolescence avoidance.

- Issue part number request and setup new part numbers, new vendor requests, vendor and item masters, and vendor pdf files.
- Ensuring parts and materials are available so that production is not interrupted.
- Comparing suppliers to ensure that the company is receiving the best quality, delivery and price available.
- Maintain files of completed and open purchase orders, ensuring that back ordered items are reviewed daily to expedite their delivery. Record delivery dates and advises applicable personnel when delivery dates are anticipated.
- Issue new and revised blanket PO's and add LTA price changes.
- Ensure that invoices received correspond with quoted prices and that all taxes charged are applicable. Prepare purchase orders, apply tax exemptions and forward for approval.
- Check inventory as required to ensure stock levels are maintained at proper levels to control costs as well as to ensure productions is not interrupted.
- Track shipments – log export shipments with CP#. Daily updates the expedite list
- Assist with counting and control of physical inventory.
- Manage and maintain the appropriate portions of the MIS files as they exist from time to time and relate to his or her area of responsibility.
- Ensure that all aspects of his or her area of responsibility are in full compliance with the quality system in place at the operation at all times.
- Use of CMS Electronic Data Interface (EDI) and Manufacturing Requirement Purchasing (MRP) Systems 100% for maintaining inventory levels.
Job Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years functional experience in materials and inventory management as well as 2-3 yesrs in a buyer or purchasing position
- Possess excellent communication skills to interact with co-workers, customers and suppliers.
- Solid experience in evaluating and analyzing risks associated with material planning and inventory management; hands-on experience in managing customer demand variations.
- Working knowledge of freight planning, lane optimization.
- Solid knowledge of ERP system/BI reporting. Familiarity with computer applications and communications software. Able to train people on IT systems.
- Working experience on continuous improvement initiatives in supply chain/plant operations settings.
- APICS /CPIM certification preferred
- Demonstrate planning and analytical skills; able to recommend and implement sustainable supply planning and inventory management solutions to drive operational performance improvements.
- Hands on experience in scheduling and inventory planning in an ERP system environment.
