What You'll Do
As a Mortgage Underwriter II, you'll be the decision-maker behind complex lending scenarios, balancing risk and compliance while keeping member service at the forefront. Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and analyzing mortgage applications, verifying income, credit, and collateral details.
- Ensuring all decisions align with internal guidelines, regulatory requirements, and secondary market standards.
- Clearly communicating loan outcomes and documentation needs to internal teams and members.
- Spotting high-risk factors, exceptions, and potential fraud with well-supported recommendations.
- Acting as a mentor to Underwriter I team members and providing expertise to lending staff.
- Driving process improvements, supporting audits, and contributing to continuous efficiency initiatives.
What You'll Bring
- Education: Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field preferred-or equivalent work experience in underwriting or financial services.
- Experience: 4-6 years of underwriting experience with mortgage loans.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with automated underwriting systems like DU or LP.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with TILA, RESPA, HMDA, FCRA, and related compliance requirements.
- Leadership & Teamwork: Strong ability to mentor peers, share knowledge, and work collaboratively to solve problems.
