Brief Overview
The newly created Perioperative APRN team is expanding and adding additional Nurse Practitioners to our team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborating with the anesthesia and perioperative nursing teams to provide comprehensive care to surgical and procedural patients at the Ambulatory Surgery Center at the brand new Boston Children’s Hospital at Needham location
- Conduct patient/family interviews, perform preanesthetic evaluations including medical history, review of systems, and physical exams.
- Coordinate with surgeons to assess patient suitability for procedures at the satellite location
- Triaging patients with illness or medical conditions that may impact surgical planning
- Communicating the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of anesthesia to patients and families and obtaining anesthesia informed consent.
- Serve as a clinical resource and educator for perioperative nursing staff
- Functions as a liaison between the anesthesia attending in charge, primary anesthesia, nursing team, and family to optimize patient care
- Prescribing and administering premedication prior to anesthesia
- Assist with IV access and support anesthesia team in the preoperative and intraoperative settings
- Work collaboratively with the regional anesthesia team assisting with block placement
- Managing patients postoperatively in the PACU
- Address family follow-up questions, assess for post-anesthesia complications, and support outcome tracking
- Act as a great teammate and be flexible in this dynamic environment.
- Working 30-40 hours per week (department has some flexibility in hours) three or four 10 hour days per week (No nights, weekends or holidays)
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- A Master of Science in Nursing
- 3 years of Nurse Practitioner experience is preferred . Would consider newer NPs with Boston Children's Hospital experience
- MA licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse PNP or FNP
- Sign-on bonus of $5,000.00 for a full-time 40 hours, prorated $3,750.00 for 30 hours (for those who have not worked at BCH in the past 2 years.)
