The Citizens Utility Board (CUB) is Illinois’ premiere utility watchdog organization, striving for better service and lower utility rates for all Illinois residents. Our work ranges from challenging utility rate hike requests, to fighting for more sustainable energy policies, to helping individuals understand the issues.
CUB has an exciting opportunity in its Outreach department for a public-interest minded person to get hands-on experience working for a good cause: fighting high energy bills, preventing rip-offs and advocating for a clean, affordable energy future. We need a detail-oriented Outreach Coordinator to help schedule and organize events and carry out CUB's grassroots work across Illinois.

What you’ll do at CUB:
- Research and establish relationships with promising organizations, elected officials, municipalities, and businesses to promote CUB’s services.
- Serve as the main CUB contact for setting up grassroots outreach events.
- Screen requests for CUB to appear at community events.
- Create social media posts, flyers, and mailed event pieces.
- Maintain the CUB Event Calendar
- Print and mail event publicity, materials for unstaffed events and other Outreach-related packages, and mail pieces advertising events when needed.
- Develop and execute strategies for boosting event attendance, including, community outreach and phone and text banking.
- Serve as a liaison between the outreach and communications departments, identifying opportunities for greater collaboration and information-sharing.
- Manage pre—and post—event logistics, including registrations, materials, and data-entry.
- Collaborate with other outreach staff to improve CUB’s internal & external event management processes.
- Represent the organization at outreach events such as utility bill clinics, tabling events and presentations across Illinois, engaging diverse audiences to promote our services and educate consumers on energy efficiency and how to better understand their utility bills.

What we need from you:
- Proven commitment to public interest work.
- Energy, enthusiasm, the ability to connect with a wide range of people.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Bilingual (English – Spanish), a plus.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to self-start and work with minimal supervision.
- Experience with Office, and video conferencing/streaming platforms such Zoom, StreamYard.
- Familiarity with InDesign, Salesforce, EveryAction, WordPress, Eventbrite and/or Canva, a plus.
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License.
