Overview
The Packing House Line Worker plays a key role in preparing fresh vegetables for market. This position is responsible for sorting, grading, washing, and packing vegetables with a strong emphasis on maintaining high quality, freshness, and presentation standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work efficiently in a farm-based packing environment.
Duties
- Sort and inspect vegetables for quality, size, ripeness, and defects
- Remove damaged, overripe, or substandard produce from the line
- Wash and dry vegetables where required, following hygiene protocols
- Pack produce into crates, boxes, or farmshare bags based on packing instructions
- Label, seal, and stack finished packages for delivery or cold storage
- Follow farm food safety practices and sanitation standards at all times
- Keep packing area clean, organised, and free of waste or hazards
- Work quickly and carefully to meet daily packing targets
- Communicate with the packing shed supervisor about quality or supply issues
- Assist with setup and clean-down of packing line at the beginning and end of shifts
Skills
- Previous farm or packing house experience preferred but not required
- Ability to handle vegetables carefully while working at a steady pace
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and hygiene
- Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and farm environments
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions and work as part of a team
