The Paramedic Instructor is 12-month faculty that assists in planning, coordinating, managing, and evaluating the activities of the department in accordance with the NWCC and MCCB guidelines. This position reports to the Director of Emergency Technology and the Dean of Health Sciences.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate Degree
- Valid work experience in the area of instruction
- Minimum of two years of work experience in the area of instruction in the last 5 years.
- Must hold and maintain a valid EMT/Paramedic certification
- Obtain and maintain accreditation requirements for the program
- Administrative and communication skills required
- Unencumbered current license to practice in Mississippi
- Acceptable criminal history background check.
- Leadership, management, and/or administrative experience in the discipline of emergency medical services.
- Minimum of two years of clinical experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Assist in planning, coordinating, managing, and evaluating the activities of the department in accordance with the NWCC and MCCB guidelines.
- Participates in curriculum development, review, and revision.
- Assist in the admission and selection process to insure it is fair and transparent.
- Implements strategies for valid reliable testing and student success.
- Actively pursues measures to seek full program accreditation.
- Plan class schedules for the department and enters them into Campus Key for each term.
- Reviews and revises the policies and procedures of the department in accordance with the policies and procedures of the School of Health Sciences.
- Updates the NWCC Bulletin. Emergency Medical Services Program website, Emergency Medical Services Program brochure, and any other publication.
- Calculates reports and monitors the program outcomes--- pass rate, employer satisfaction, graduate satisfaction, employment rates)
- Coordinates recruiting for the Emergency Medical Services Program in cooperation with the NW recruiters.
- Attends high school career activities for recruiting when requested.
- Provides academic advisement for Emergency Medical Services Program students.
- Delivers course instruction and plans evaluative measures.
- Initiates and/or reviews contracts between healthcare institutions.
- Communicates effectively with the administration of health care institutions, community, groups, and state, regional and national agencies.
- Contributes to the department budget, and monitors expenditures, to insure the department stays within the budget.
- Contributes to all textbook selections that are made.
- Participates in NWCC committees as assigned.
- Acts decisively and with fairness when dealing with faculty, staff, and students.
- Assumes other duties as assigned by the Director of Emergency Medical Technology and the Dean for Health Sciences.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to take initiative to solve problems.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Experience using technology including email, word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software, and Internet use.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and courteously with students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
- Ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a team.
- Must be a “quick study” to quickly grasp and retain knowledge of policies and procedures relating to every aspect of student services that a prospective or current student may utilize.
- Demonstrate oral and written communication skills to interact with a wide range of diverse individuals.
- Flexible schedule is required to meet department needs, as some evenings, weekends, and extended hours may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the Surgical Technology Instructor regularly required to do the following:
- Stand for long periods
- Talk, hear, view, and assist students
- Communicate with others in person, telephone, zoom, & live chat
- Sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms
- Stand, walk, stoop, or kneel
- Occasionally lift and/or move items of at least 15-20 pounds
