SUMMARY OF ROLE:
Responsible for representing personal injury clients, ensuring justice and compensation for their injuries. This is accomplished by handling the case file from start to settlement with support from a team of highly skilled support professionals. This includes managing the case at all stages of pre-litigation including the investigation, communication with insurance companies, negotiation, settlement, and liens process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
- Handle personal injury case files from start to finish.
- Evaluate potential personal injury claims and provide legal advice to prospective clients accordingly. Access the value of claim by the 30-day mark.
- Draft, review, and modify claims, FOIA requests, notice of claim letters, demand letters, medical records, litigation vet memos, and other legal documents.
- Meet all pre-litigation filing deadlines.
- Research case law and oversee the collection of insurance policies, medical expenses, medical records, and other evidence relevant to the case. Develop theory of the case and negotiation strategy.
- Respond to all questions and requests from paralegal staff within 48 hours.
- Communicate with clients, witnesses, insurance company adjusters, and medical providers to gather information.
- Negotiate suitable agreements and settle on the clients’ behalf when appropriate.
- Review all liens and expenses prior to settlement disbursement to client.
- Represent the client at hearings and mediations.
- Document and update the status of all case files in the case management system. Follow the firm’s communication guidelines.
- Assume any additional duties that may be assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- High level of interpersonal and customer service experience and skills.
- Effective communication skills with clients, courts, insurance providers, and firm employees at all levels.
- Proven ability in the understanding of personal injury/tort law, medical terminology, and wrongful death.
- Excellent organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to organize, plan, research and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, with good attention to detail.
- Ability to work autonomously and understand when the Practice Manager needs to be involved in decision making.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion, good judgment, and negotiation skills.
- Sensitivity to problems or challenges - The ability to identify when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong, with the skill to effectively communicate with clients in a professional, consultative manner.
- Deductive Reasoning – The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce sensible and reasonable answers.
- Oral Comprehension – The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through written and verbal communication.
- Effective decision making – The ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and implement the best solution to solve problems or challenges.
- Self-motivated, with a dedication to keeping up to date professionally, and applying new knowledge to the job.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate from ABA accredited law school.
- Membership in the Virginia State Bar Association and a Virginia state license to practice law is mandatory.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in personal injury or civil litigation practices areas is required.
- Highly efficient with computer software (Microsoft Office applications Excel, Word)
- Knowledge and experience with other relevant forms of data technology software.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check and other pre-employment screening.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
