Summary:
The Program Director of Enterprise Nursing Practice is responsible for establishing standardized evidence-based professional nursing practices in alignment with the Professional Practice Model, serves as the Texas Board of Nursing liaison, leads Nursing Peer Review, and maintains clinical practice policies across Children's Health System of Texas (CHST). The Program Director provides leadership, planning, coordination, and trending of opportunities in clinical nursing practice according to the Texas Board of Nursing, regulatory bodies, and internal policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership and direction to assess, develop, plan, implement, and evaluate enterprise nursing practice.
- Maintains oversight of Nursing Peer Review and serves as the Texas Board of Nursing liaison.
- Prepares and provides required Nursing Peer Review reports to the applicable safety committee(s) and applicable Children’s Health Board.
- Maintains a nursing practice consult process to assist nursing leaders in nursing practice evaluation and development of effective remediation action plans for nurses.
- Oversees team in evidence-based practice clinical practice policy development and maintenance of the evidence-based nursing procedure integration into policies.
- Facilitates education and training for nurses centered around professional nursing practice accountability, authority, and autonomy across enterprise in alignment with the Professional Practice Model.
- Engages with clinical nurses in the Nursing Professional Governance councils and unit-based councils in nursing practice decision making.
- Engages clinical nurses in review and ongoing management of the nursing Professional Practice Model, providing structure to the process and organization of care delivery at Children's Health.
- Ensures coordination and standardization is maintained for nursing practice and care delivery across the enterprise.
- Maintains a culture of accountability related to professional nursing practice for all nurses at Children's Health.
- Leads team in development and maintenance of Nursing Excellence dashboard aligned with metrics critical to Magnet and the nursing strategic priorities of the enterprise.
- Maintains oversight, accuracy, and timely data entry of the nurse sensitive indicators for the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI).
- Collaborates with nursing leaders and clinical nurses to establish ongoing process to review and improve nurse sensitive indicators focused on nursing practice improvement.
- Aligns nursing projects and initiatives with the organization and nursing strategic goals.
- Ensures nursing projects and initiatives follow evidence-based practice or quality improvement methodology to advance evidence-based nursing practice.
- Mentors and supports clinical inquiry at all levels.
- Collaborates with interprofessionals to promote clinical excellence and to improve patient outcomes.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- At least 5 years Pediatric nursing experience Required
- At least 4 years Progressive leadership experience within a healthcare setting Required
- At least 2 years Professional experience in quality and safety and/or performance improvement, or nursing practice oversight Required
- At least 2 years Managing projects Preferred
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing Required
- Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience Master of Science (Nursing) within 3 years Required
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas (or current valid Compact RN license) Upon Hire Required
- American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) recognized certification within 120 days of hire Required
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements Upon Hire Required
