Job Title: Ranger & Starter

Reports To: Head Golf Professional / Director of Golf
Position Summary
The Ranger & Starter plays a key role in ensuring an exceptional golf experience for members and guests by managing the first-tee process, monitoring pace of play, and upholding club policies on the golf course. This role requires excellent communication, strong customer service skills, and a calm but authoritative presence.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Starter Duties (Pre-Round):
- Greet members and guests at the first tee in a professional, welcoming manner.
- Confirm tee times, groupings, and ensure all players are properly registered.
- Review and communicate course policies, pace-of-play expectations, and any special notices (cart rules, weather conditions, pin positions, etc.).
- Maintain an orderly and timely flow of groups from the first tee.
- Provide scorecards, pencils, and any relevant club or tournament information.
Ranger Duties (On-Course):
- Patrol the course to monitor pace of play and player conduct.
- Provide courteous reminders to groups when pace of play expectations are not being met.
- Assist members and guests with questions, directions, or on-course needs.
- Ensure course safety by monitoring for unauthorized play, adherence to cart-path rules, and compliance with club policies.
- Communicate with the golf shop and professional staff regarding any issues, delays, or incidents on the course.
- Offer assistance during inclement weather or emergency situations, including coordinating evacuations if required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Prior experience in golf operations, hospitality, or customer service preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with members, guests, and staff.
- Knowledge of golf rules, etiquette, and pace-of-play standards.
- Ability to remain calm and diplomatic in challenging situations.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to drive a golf cart and spend extended periods outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs (golf bags, supplies, etc.).
- Comfortable working outdoors in heat, humidity, rain, or cool conditions.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $14.00 per hour
Expected hours: 8 – 40 per week
