Job Description Summary
The Center for Social Norm and Behavioral Dynamics invites applicants for the position of Research Specialist. As the research specialist will be working mostly with reams of data obtained from the “Examining Poverty’s Roots within US Communities” study, experience with data cleaning, analysis, and statistical programs (especially R and some knowledge of Stata is also helpful) is a must for a successful candidate to this position.
Job Description
The Center for Social Norms and Behavioral Dynamics (Penn CSNBD), led by Dr. Cristina Bicchieri, is a major research center at the University of Pennsylvania, which aims to support positive behaviors on a global scale, across both informal and organizational settings. Penn CSNBD has undertaken a range of projects with different partner organizations around the world by leveraging our expertise in measuring behavior, analyzing behavioral data, and identifying systematic behavioral drivers. Our research interests here are broad and are constantly evolving. Interested applicants should be prepared for (and look forward to) a rich and dynamic research experience.
Job Duties:
Responsibilities for a new research specialist would include (but are not limited to) data cleaning, wrangling, and analysis. Additionally, the research specialist will be tasked with reporting statistical results in writing, with data visualization, and in tables. These will also be used to update the Center’s website. The research specialist will help prepare written outputs such as academic manuscripts as well as slides and/or other presentation materials for lectures, conference presentations and talks.
The research specialists will take charge in coordination of meetings, important dates, timelines, reports and upcoming conference preparations for the Post-docs, PIs and other research staff. They will also be in helping update our website and build-out to showcase the research products of our current and future research.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree and 0 to 1 year of experience required. B.S. or B.A. (especially statistics, data science, experimental economics, experimental psychology, and computer science preferred).
  • Data management, cleaning, and analysis skills (understanding data structures and types, cleaning, wrangling/reshaping, merging, working with missing data, and regression and other statistical analysis skills)
  • Experience working in R, STATA or Python (Strong preference for R and a preference for STATA).
  • Strong written and analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred:
  • Website updates and implementation
  • Experience as a research assistant or similar in academic setting
This position is a one-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal. This position is fully in person 5 days a week.
