JOB DESCRIPTION:


Primary Purpose: A Restorative Discipline Liaison (RDL) will work proactively to change school culture rather than responding to student behavior reactively. RDL will work directly with students to solve conflicts and mitigate behavioral situations with a student-centered, solution-focused approach. This includes collaboration with students, staff, and parents to create a restorative climate. The RDL will assess and evaluate campus behavioral trends, plan behavioral goals with students, as well as participate in transition meetings. The RDL will also provide comprehensive and culturally competent restorative justice and social emotional learning support to students and staff.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Foster the academic success of students, reduce disproportionate discipline, promote positive climate and culture, showcase equity, and build stronger stakeholder relationships.
  • Lead research-based professional development on restorative mindsets, restorative language, talking circles, restorative conversations, peace circles, and peer conference
  • Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student(s) disciplinary progress towards goals.
  • Continual communication with students on instructional/behavioral expectations and tracking progress towards expectations.
  • Assess existing school structures and policies with a restorative lens and coach areas needing improvement.
  • Develop respectful professional relationships, build trust in a limited time, and engage and inform school leaders, staff and students about Restorative Practices and PBIS
  • Maintain professionalism in the areas of punctuality, documentation, organization, and responsiveness.
  • Learn and work within the frameworks of positive youth development, trauma-informed and balanced and Restorative Justice.
  • Develop positive relationships and mentor at-risk students at risk for Juvenile Justice
  • Build restorative mindsets and capacity for school staff, students, and community stakeholders, to implement Restorative Practices
  • Facilitate various forms of professional development:
  • Consultation to school leadership and school teams on the development and implementation of systems and structures for Restorative Practices
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments for high-risk behaviors.
  • Actively participate in all applicable staff and team meetings, professional development trainings and supervision meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.

EXPERIENCE:


Minimum Experience:
  • Three years of teaching experience in an alternative school setting preferred

QUALIFICATIONS:


Minimum Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Valid Texas teacher certificate or teaching certificate from out of state appropriate for position
  • Must meet requirements under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) for highly qualified teachers
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with staff, students, and the community
  • Ability to instruct students using a variety of technology applications and platforms
  • Ability to exercise effective teaching practices appropriate for assigned modality
  • Ability to support students with computer setup, navigation, and technology issues if assigned to distance or virtual instruction
  • Ability to use feedback and self-reflection to improve performance
  • Expertise in one or more academic areas and/or developmental age group or population
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Belief that that all students can achieve at high levels and be positive contributors to the school community
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and social media
