Retail Manager Position Summary: The Retail Manager will support retail operations by leading activities related to customer service, point of sale, merchandise stocking, visual staging of merchandise, and cleanliness and organization of the sales floor. The Retail Manager will communicate regularly with Processing Managers & staff and the Operations Director to develop priorities for merchandise processing & pricing. The Retail Manager also:
- Exhibit a positive attitude in all interactions with customers, staff and volunteers.
- Proactively directs Customer Service Associates to assist as needed with Retail tasks.
- Coordinates with the Marketing / E-Commerce team for marketing and social media efforts.
The Retail Manager will collaborate with staff and volunteers to create a retail environment that is clean, cute, creative and uncluttered.

Position Key Responsibilities
- Lead “front of store” operations including deployment of staff and volunteers for daily tasks
- Store Operations Directors and Managers collaborate together to act as “leads” during all shifts and are responsible for:
- Setting the daily schedule and work priorities for the team (including Associates) - assigning staff to tasks (register, receiving, stocking, etc.) and determining schedule for breaks (including meals)
- Handling customer concerns and complaints
- Handling volunteer concerns and setting volunteer work priorities
- Making requests for assistance to Operations Directors or Managing Director when needed
- Answer customer questions in a manner consistent with the stores mission and values
- Encounter all stakeholders with kindness
- Store Operations Directors and Managers collaborate together to act as “leads” during all shifts and are responsible for:
- Organize all retail spaces, in collaboration with OD and Processing Manager(s)
- Maintain clean, attractively-staged and organized displays
- Maintain a proactive merchandise rotation program, regularly purging items and assuring product is “fresh”
- Complete store cleaning tasks; assure the sales floor is clean and uncluttered; assure restrooms and other public areas are clean and welcoming
- Provide ideas and support to the Marketing & E-Commerce team to promote Overflow merchandise and increase sales
- Collaborate with Processing Manager to move merchandise onto the sales floor efficiently and in a manner that maximizes sales opportunity (e.g., moving seasonal items on & off the sales floor)
- Create an environment in the store that promotes customer and staff safety
- Keep aisles free from clutter
- Assure broken items are removed from the sales floor
- Assure sidewalks immediately around customer and volunteer entries are free from debris and snow / ice; alert OD of any significant repair concerns
- Achieve sales goals
- Collaborate with store Operations Director and Processing Manager(s) to meet monthly sales goals
- Develop and adjust processes for efficiency
- Collaborate with store Operations Director on process and facility changes that promote efficiency
- Maintain accuracy of department training and pricing guides
- Support Processing team with donation, processing and pricing tasks as needed and under the direction of Processing Manager(s) and store Operations Director
- Serve as an ambassador to OTS volunteers - creating an environment of appreciation for our volunteers while supporting volunteers to achieve the OTS mission
- Collaborate with volunteers on assigned work priorities
- Communicate with volunteers with kindness, respect and appreciation
- Participate in planned volunteer trainings, groups, and appreciation as scheduled
- Utilize training and pricing guides for volunteer onboarding
Position Requirements
- High School diploma
- One to two years years experience in retail environment preferred
- Ability to lift 30 pounds and 60 pounds in a team lift occasionally
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with continuous standing, carrying, bending, squatting, pulling, and pushing
- This is a physically-active role - expect to be standing and moving 95% of each shift. The work includes cleaning the store (mopping, sweeping, cleaning restrooms, dusting), cleaning merchandise, moving boxes and merchandise repeatedly, pushing heavy carts, moving displays, etc.
- Ability to work outside for brief periods in all weather on a variety of tasks such as assisting donors as they remove items from their vehicles, removing trash from the store to exterior dumpsters, helping customers with furniture pick-ups, light shoveling of snow from sidewalks, etc.
- Ability to work two Saturdays each month, and a mix of daily schedules (9 AM to 5:30 PM, or 10 AM to 6:30 PM)
