MLB's Department of Investigations is looking for a Senior Counsel to be responsible with assisting with confidential and highly sensitive investigations related to players, umpires, and baseball personnel as directed.
Responsibilities
- Investigate allegations related to performance-enhancing substances, domestic violence, sexual assault, gambling, off-field misconduct, and other violations of baseball rules and policies
- Conduct interviews throughout the United States and internationally, primarily in the Dominican Republic
- Independently draft detailed investigative reports, interview summaries, and other documentation related to investigations
- Develop investigation strategy and ensure timely execution of investigative steps
- Liaise with local, state, and federal law enforcement entities about ongoing investigations
- Review and analyze documents, text messages, emails, and legal filings
- Work with analysts to gather and analyze publicly available information, including government records, social media, and news reports
- Assist with hotline management, including maintaining vendor relationships and issue response
- Conduct legal research as needed
- Assist Clubs with certain internal investigations as directed
Qualifications & Skills
- Fluency in Spanish (oral and written) strongly preferred but not required
- J.D. and a minimum of five years of legal experience required
- This position is based in New York City and requires in-office attendance five days per week
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; familiarity with Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to manage deliverables with time-sensitive deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Intermittent domestic and international travel required, at times on short notice
Salary Range: $235,000 - $265,000 (Base Salary) + Bonus
As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills and any other factors Major League Baseball (MLB) considers relevant to the hiring decision.
