POSITION SUMMARY
The sewing studio Technician provides instruction in the safe operation and usage of the sewing studio spaces, tools and equipment. The Sewing Studio Technician is responsible for the cleanliness functionality and maintenance of the space and equipment. The Sewing Studio Technician actively engages in the creative culture of the school and models responsible use of the facilities. The Sewing Studio Technician will take direction from and work closely with the 3D Studio Manager and the Department Chair to support the curriculum. Work-hours will be scheduled around curricular needs and class demands and may involve weekend hours (8 hours weekly).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work with specific classes, assisting the faculty in delivering their curriculum

Maintain a safe, clean and organized studio environment
-
Restock supplies and tools based on student and faculty needs

Maintain equipment and machinery
-
Educate students about safety procedures in the shop
-
Supervise student's shop use during open lab times
-
Provide class demonstrations in tool usage
-
Administer tool use/check out system
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Recent continuing education or apprenticeship
-
Extensive knowledge and experience with a wide variety of sewing and fiber tools
-
Strong interpersonal communication skills
-
Ability to give and receive direction & communicate effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff
-
Proactive, self-motivated, energetic, problem-solving
-
Strong aptitude for equipment maintenance and repair
-
Excellent supervisory and organizational skills
-
Understanding of institutional health and safety issues
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Fine Art Degree
