Job Summary
Powercon Corp is a leading switchgear manufacturing company dedicated to providing high-quality electrical solutions. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sheet Metal Manager to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day operations of the sheet metal shop, including laser cutting, punching, bending, forming, grinding, and assembly of sheet metal parts.
- Manage scheduling and assignments of sheet metal department staff to meet production goals and delivery timelines.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to review and interpret drawings, specifications, and work orders.
- Monitor quality and accuracy of fabricated parts; enforce adherence to tolerances and finish requirements.
- Ensure safe and efficient use of tools, equipment, and materials in compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
- Troubleshoot and coordinate preventive maintenance and timely repairs of fabrication machinery (press brakes, CNC machines, shears, etc.).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for process efficiency, material utilization, and workflow optimization.
- Train, coach, and evaluate shop personnel; support cross-training and skill development across the team.
- Maintain accurate records of production, labor hours, scrap rates, and material usage.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of new equipment, technologies, or layout changes to support scaling operations.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in sheet metal fabrication, including 2+ years in a managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, including CNC punching, press brake forming, welding, and assembly.
- Experience in a switchgear or electrical enclosure manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and fabrication specifications.
- Proficient with production scheduling, inventory control, and basic ERP/MRP systems.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and team-building skills.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with automated sheet metal equipment or robotic welding systems
- Familiarity with electrical enclosure design standards
- Proficiency in CAD software for manufacturing support (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.)
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing floor setting with exposure to machinery, noise, and occasional lifting.
Requires standing, walking, and working in a hands-on production environment.
