Role Overview:

Snowmakers handle the making of snow for a solid base and early season conditions. The starting date for this role is typically mid-October and the end date is usually early to mid-January with the choice to transfer to another department for the rest of the season. Snowmakers are responsible for setting up, turning on, moving, monitoring, troubleshooting, and shutting down all snowmaking equipment. This is a very physically demanding job in which the ideal candidate must be able to lift at least 50lbs and carry up to 40lbs. Candidates must also be able to work all shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays and be able to endure all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for preparation and operation of snowmaking systems
• Conduct visual inspections and routine maintenance of snow guns and hoses
• Set up and break down of snowmaking equipment
• Operation of various snowmaking equipment including shovels, guns, hoses, hydrants, etc. according to ASC service and safety standards
• Transportation of snowmaking equipment, including driving vehicles including trucks, 4-wheelers, side-by-sides, and snowmobiles on variable terrain in a safe and efficient manner
• Develop an understanding of mountain layout and snowmobile routes
• Monitor quality of snow and makes adjustments as needed
• Recognize and communicate hazards within the snowmaking system
• Assists in maintenance and repair of snowmaking guns and snowmobiles
• Will be required to work outside in all weather conditions
• Will be required to work weekends and holidays
• Work as part of a team to complete tasks
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and carry up to 40 lbs.
• Valid driver’s license or able to obtain one
• Must be in good physical condition
• Moderate to advanced skiing or riding ability
• Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, bend or be on your feet for extended periods of time.
• Continuously work in wet, cold, hot conditions requiring the use of protective apparel/equipment to prevent exposure to the elements and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces
• Must be able to often lift, push or pull up to 100 lbs. individually or with assistance. The employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts

NOTE:

Work Environment: This position involves working outside in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, wind and rain, on varied snow surfaces, and requires being on your feet for the majority of the scheduled shift.

Physical and Mental Demands: This position works primarily outside and requires prolonged periods of standing and walking on slippery and/or uneven snow or icy surfaces. Must remain alert and attentive at all times. Must lift up to 50 pounds and be able to twist, turn and drag equipment.
