Job responsibilities:
- A Parent Support Partner offers mentoring and support to families that include a person with mental health, emotional or behavioral challenges and/or developmental disabilities by offering system navigation, emotional support, and knowledge of community resources.
- A Parent Support Partner must have a child with mental health, developmental disabilities, emotional or behavioral challenges.
- The eligible candidate must have progressed far enough along in their own parental journey of raising a child with a disability that they are now capable of supporting another parent who is experiencing similar challenges in finding resources, navigating systems, and handling day to day life.
- Communicates with customers to determine level of understanding of their child’s diagnosis and situation, and has the ability to offer related information.
- Assists the family in identifying their natural supports.
- Assists the family in identifying their child’s strengths and the strengths of the family.
- Attends community meetings with the family when necessary to support the family and model effective advocacy skills.
- Maintains well-organized records, accurate case notes, with timely computer entry.
- Accurate tracking of all time spent with each customer.
- Has the ability to problem solve, think outside of the box, and collaborate with community partners.
- Knowledge of area resources and how to access them.
- Must have organizational skills, be able to use technology on the go including a cell phone, tablet, wifi, and be comfortable traveling within the county to families' homes.
- Must have resided in Missouri for at least 2 consecutive years prior to hire date.
Qualifications and Skills
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of training or related experience and have the following requirements or skills:
- Have a high school diploma or have obtained a GED.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication skills as well as an ability to work with community professionals at a variety of levels.
- Reliable transportation.
- Parent of an individual with a developmental disability or a mental health diagnosis.
- Basic computer skills, ability to type, and the ability to use basic office equipment.
- Flexible schedule (evening meetings required).
- Must live in St. Charles County, or be knowledgeable of services and resources in St. Charles County.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 per hour
