Position Summary
The Lead Sterile Processing Technician position is for an experienced Certified Sterile Processing Technician. Under supervision of the SPD (Sterile Processing Department) Supervisor, the Lead Sterile Processing Technician will serve as a shift lead and will run a shift independently when supervisors are not present. The position will assist and monitor activities related to sterilization, decontamination, and disinfection for their assigned shift while promoting services and satisfaction through training, education, and resolution of instrument set and processes concerns of staff and physicians.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Assembles instrument trays for operating rooms and oversees daily operations of all activities that relate to the
- Ensure all team members follow proper operational procedures.
- Assumes responsibility, in collaboration with SPD Supervisor, for scheduling new employee orientation, on-the-job training, and in-service education and facility quality assurance programs as needed.
- Completes some of the documentation required by facility related to inventory/equipment requests and repairs.
- Maintains a professional relationship with all facility’s departments as necessary to ensure effective, efficient support to the patient caregivers.
- Prepares instruments and supplies through cleaning, packing, sterilizing, and storing procedures.
- Performs equipment distribution and routing cleaning and maintenance.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education/Training
- High school diploma or equivalent
Licensure/Certification
- Certification through HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association), CRCST, or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) (CSPDT)
Experience
- Two years of experience in a healthcare based sterile processing department.
