Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in behavioral health, addiction counseling, and mental health support. This role involves providing therapeutic services to individuals struggling with substance use disorders, utilizing evidence-based practices to facilitate recovery and improve overall well-being. The Substance Abuse Counselor will work collaboratively with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to develop personalized treatment plans that address the unique needs of each individual.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and diagnostic evaluations to determine the appropriate course of treatment.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions utilizing techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and crisis intervention.
- Develop and implement treatment plans that incorporate addiction medicine principles and behavioral therapy strategies.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions focused on recovery skills, coping strategies, and relapse prevention.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations, including intake forms, progress notes, and treatment summaries.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and ensure continuity of services across various settings (home, community, hospital).
- Engage in case management activities to assist clients in accessing resources and support systems necessary for recovery.
- Conduct research and data collection to inform clinical practices and improve service delivery within the organization.
- Provide education on addiction-related topics to clients and their families, fostering a supportive environment for recovery.
Experience
Candidates should possess the following skills and experience:
- Proficiency in psychotherapy techniques relevant to substance abuse treatment, including crisis management and Motivational Interviewing.
- Strong capabilities in patient care assessment, case management, data collection, and behavior management are critical for success in this role.
