As Toyota’s designated Consumer Reporting Agency and data aggregator, we share vehicle telematics data with participating insurers-always with explicit owner consent-to unlock personalized, data-driven insurance offerings.
Who You Are:
You are a seasoned insurance professional with deep underwriting expertise and a passion for innovation. You have extensive experience working in personal lines auto insurance and understand how telematics data can transform pricing and risk selection. You’re equally comfortable in front of a C-suite audience as you are writing user stories for a dev team. You’re ready to lead the charge in helping top insurers adopt Toyota, Lexus and Mazda telematics data over mobile-based alternatives.
What You’ll Do:
You’ll be the face of Connected Analytic Services to the top U.S. auto insurers as it relates to using telematics data for pricing. You’ll own the product vision, and execution of telematics-based underwriting solutions. You’ll translate carrier needs into actionable product requirements, guide internal development teams, and evangelize the value of OEM data in modern insurance pricing.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead the innovation, development, and delivery of new underwriting products using telematics data from connected Toyota, Lexus and Mazda vehicles.
- Own and evolve products that impact data supplied at time of quote, data for ongoing monitoring, and lead generation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Toyota Connected and Toyota Motors North America, and other Toyota entities to ensure seamless integration of telematics capabilities and privacy compliance.
- Translate business needs into technical product requirements, analytical solutions, and actionable insights.
- Serve as the voice of the vehicle owner and carrier partner in product design, ensuring underwriting products drive both customer value and operational efficiency.
- Create and manage product roadmaps and backlogs using Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Write user stories, define acceptance criteria, and ensure timely delivery of features and enhancements.
- Develop and deliver presentations that clearly communicate product performance, usage of KPIs, and strategic value to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- Maintain a strong understanding of underwriting guidelines, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory considerations impacting underwriting data usage.
- Partner with legal and compliance teams to ensure all solutions align with relevant insurance and data privacy laws.
- Build strong relationships with vendor partners and support contract negotiations when applicable.
Required Education and Experience:
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in personal auto insurance, underwriting, product development, or data strategy (telematics experience is a strong plus).
- Experience working at or with a top-tier auto insurer (e.g., GEICO, Progressive, State Farm, Allstate, etc.)
- Deep understanding of how telematics data is used in rating models and risk segmentation.
- Proven ability to influence carrier decision-makers and drive adoption of new data sources.
- Strong understanding of the quote-to-bind process and underwriting workflows.
Bonus Points For:
- Prior experience selling or implementing third-party data solutions to insurers.
- Familiarity with OEM telematics platforms or connected vehicle data.
- Strong storytelling and presentation skills—able to make a compelling business case to skeptical stakeholders.
- Experience translating business needs into technical requirements (e.g., Jira, Agile workflows).
Certifications (Preferred):
- Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)
- Associate in Personal Insurance (API)
Work Environment:
- General onsite office environment.
- Ability to work within a Team environment under tight schedules.
- Willingness to work evenings or weekends, as dictated by the needs of the business.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours per day).
- Frequent use of computer keyboard and mouse with repetitive hand/wrist motions.
- Visual acuity sufficient to read documents and computer screens for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 10-15 pounds occasionally (files, supplies, etc.).
- Capability to stand and walk intermittently throughout the workday.
- Hearing sufficient to participate in phone calls and meetings.
- Ability to reach, bend, and twist occasionally to access equipment (printer).
