Posting Context Statement:
The Office of Research and Economic Development is seeking a Lead Grant Administrator to help launch a new Shared Services Research Administration team. Reporting directly to the Research Division Business Officer, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape scalable systems that support faculty and advance the universitys research mission.

Position Overview:
This position will manage and oversee sponsored project activity within a college, program or unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying funding opportunities, preparing proposals, managing budgets and ensuring compliance with requirements for externally funded projects. They will work with the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) to assess and improve processes and procedures and will serve as a liaison with partner institutions, state, regional, federal, and other internal and external departments and organizations. This position will also serve as an expert to faculty and staff, acting as a resource for all aspects of sponsored projects.

Duties may include:
  • Research funding opportunities, develop proposals and collaborate with project leadership to gather necessary information
  • Collect, analyze, interpret and document required information from sponsored project agreements and amendments, including sponsor terms, federal regulations, deliverables, etc.
  • Manage the complete lifecycle of sponsored project from application to reporting, ensuring adherence to all grant guidelines and deadlines
  • Develop and monitor sponsored project budgets in collaboration with finance and program staff, ensuring accurate financial tracking and reporting
  • Ensure compliance with sponsored project terms and conditions; prepare and submit timely reports to funding agencies and maintain accurate records
  • Develop and provide guidance and training to departmental staff on sponsored project processes, policies and procedures
  • Lead and mentor a team of specialists to assist with sponsored project proposals and compliance
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience:
  • Three years reviewing sponsored program proposals against submission requirements
  • Supervising the work of others or coordinating projects to accomplish shared goals
  • Independently managing projects that involve multiple stakeholders
  • Interpreting, explaining and applying laws, regulations, and policies, including university, federal, state and/or sponsor regulations
  • Translating technical concepts into simplified language for general audiences
  • Presenting educational content in large group and individual settings
  • Editing and writing business correspondence using proper grammar and punctuation as demonstrated in application materials
  • Using spreadsheet software to compile, summarize and analyze financial data
  • Developing, recommending and evaluating unit procedures and policies and implementing changes when warranted

Required Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Certified Research Administrator or Certified Financial Research Administrator
  • Four or more years in a sponsored programs-related support position (either pre- or post-award) related to applying project budgeting guidelines and procedures, preferably at an institution of higher education, non-profit or federal entity
  • Experience explaining and applying sponsored project policies, regulations, administrative practices, and ethics and confidentiality principles and practices, preferably at an institution of higher education
  • Experience serving as a liaison between internal and external entities and individuals to coordinate activities and resolve issues
  • Experience with external electronic proposal submission systems (such as research.gov, grants.gov, NSPIRES, eRACommons, ASSIST)
  • Experience using finance or human resource modules in the Banner information system
  • Knowledge of or experience with 2 CFR part 200
  • Working knowledge of Banner Finance and ARGOS and their application in managing sponsored project budgets, expenditures and financial reporting
  • Experience navigating the University of Idahos organizational structure and research administration environment
  • Familiarity with the University of Idahos Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) procedures, including indirect cost policies, cost-share management, subrecipient monitoring expectations and compliance protocols
