Visiting Research Scientist - Psychology

The department of Psychology is searching for a Visiting Research Scientist to design, implement, conduct, interpret and write publications based on studies investigating eye movements during reading and also using computational modeling to better understand trajectories of skilled reading.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, implement and conduct studies investigating developmental trajectories of eye movements during reading using behavioral and eye-tracking measures, and computational modeling. Develop new studies, analyses pipelines, and models to understand trajectories of reading development.
- Supervise and direct day-to-day activities of reading research projects, including training undergraduates in data collection, analysis and scientific method, as well as providing professional development training. Oversee undergraduate data collection and analysis efforts, coordinate weekly lab meetings and research assistant training seminars.
- Supervise and oversee participant recruitment efforts and participant scheduling through both participants in the psych department SONA and adolescents in the surrounding community.
- Write, publish and present findings from these projects, including writing/submitting/revising manuscripts, presenting at local and national conferences and assisting in the writing of grants based on these projects.
- Advise and assist graduate and undergraduate students in the Learning and Language Lab in their research and learning, including with hardware and software setup for new and ongoing eye-tracking data collection and data analysis.
- Contribute to the Learning and Language lab’s scientific activities, including weekly lab meetings.
Required Qualifications
PhD in Psychology or closely related field. Experience designing and leading eye-tracking studies of eye movements during reading Experience publishing and presenting scientific results.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of relevant research concepts, practices and procedures for all the various methods and measures used in the Learning and Language Lab
- Strong computational skills, including experience with computational modeling
- Ability to communicate effectively with others
- Able to work independently, as well as part of the team on multiple projects and to train and lead teams
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to be resourceful, proactive and seek assistance as needed.
- Sustained track record of innovation and original research
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The budgeted salary range for the position is $60,000 to $65,000.
