As a member of the crew, responsible for the activities of the crew to ensure appropriate and timely completion of wastewater repairs, installations, and inspections.
Essential Functions and Other Important Duties
Essential Functions:
- Assists supervisor in planning, scheduling and supervising the work of subordinates; inspects the activities of the crew to ensure appropriate and timely completion of projects
- Assists supervisor with employee interviews, selections, performance appraisals, discipline, etc.
- Experience in the construction and repair of water and wastewater lines, services and taps
- Maintains on-call availability for after hours emergencies on a rotating basis and leads the crew as necessary in the event of sewer chokes, sewer line repairs, investigation of customer complaints, ect.
- May issue tools and materials as necessary
- Assists in training subordinates in the best and safest methods of accomplishing tasks, primarily through on-the-job training or individual instruction
- Operates equipment and performs duties of subordinates as needed
- May transport heavy equipment and materials to and from job site
- May operate heavy complex motorized equipment such as track hoe, backhoe, flushing truck, etc.
- Monitors and performs maintenance work and equipment operations in the field
- Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
- Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Five (5) years experience in utility maintenance work and in operating heavy equipment
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tank Vehicle endorsement or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment
- Must have or obtain a valid TCEQ Class B Water Distribution License within thirty-six (36) months of employment
- Must have or obtain a valid TCEQ Class III Wastewater Collections Operator License within thirty-six (36) months of employment
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers
- Ability to read and write in order to prepare reports such as monthly reports, after-hour call log sheets and work orders; daily time sheets and evaluation of subordinates.
- Knowledge in confined space entry, traffic control, and construction safety
- Ability to use CMMS (cityworks) to input daily work orders
- Must be able to interpret plans and calculate grade
- Performs work in confined spaces such as manholes and liftstations
- Ability to construct sewer lines by open cut and pipe bursting methods
- Ability to fuse HDPE pipe to install by pipe bursting
- Ability to use engineers level and philly rod to determine elevations
- Ability to construct poured in place manholes
- Ability to set up traffic control plans according to the TXMUTCD
- Ability to lay asphalt for temporary and permanent patching
Preferences:
- Current Wastewater experience
- Knowledge/Experience with Flushing Trucks
- Pipe Bursting experience in wastewater lines
- Supervisor experience
- Current TCEQ Class III Wastewater Collections Operator License
- PACP Certification
Conditions of Employment:
- Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tank Vehicle endorsement and a good driving record OR must possess a valid Class C driver’s license with a good driving record and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL with Tank Vehicle endorsement within six (6) months of employment
- Must possess or obtain a valid TCEQ Class B Water Distribution License within thirty-six (36) months of employment
- Must possess or obtain a valid TCEQ Class III Wastewater Collections Operator License within thirty-six (36) months of employment
- Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
- Must pass a physical examination
- Must be able to work overtime when requested
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that could include nights and weekends
