About the role

We're seeking an experienced engineering leader to join our Engineering Design and Specifications team as Coordinator Engineering Design (Civil). In this role, you will lead a team of engineers, designers and drafters delivering infrastructure projects across the City. You will provide technical leadership, oversee design quality and governance and ensure the successful delivery of safe, practical and fit-for-purpose engineering solutions . This is an opportunity to combine your technical expertise, people leadership and operational management while influencing the delivery of infrastructure that supports one of Australia’s fastest growing cities.

Reporting to the Manager Engineering Design and Specifications, you will lead the civil delivery of engineering design and documentation services across a diverse portfolio of projects. You will provide technical governance and professional oversight while working closely with project managers, asset custodians, consultants and other stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, mentoring and developing a multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers and drafters.
  • Managing the delivery of civil engineering design services across Council's capital works program.
  • Providing technical governance and oversight of engineering design deliverables.
  • Managing team resources, workloads and priorities to meet business and project requirements.
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary design inputs and managing project interfaces.
  • Overseeing design reviews, quality assurance processes and engineering compliance.
  • Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensuring engineering solutions are safe, sustainable, practical and fit for purpose.
  • Applying Safety in Design principles and managing design-related risks.
  • Driving continuous improvement in engineering systems, standards, procedures and practices.
  • Monitoring team performance and service delivery outcomes.
  • Providing strategic engineering advice to support organisational objectives.

We’re looking for people who have:

  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering design teams and delivering quality outcomes.
  • Strong experience in the design and delivery of civil infrastructure projects.
  • Experience managing complex stakeholder relationships and competing priorities.
  • Strong understanding of engineering governance, design assurance and risk management.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering projects and design interfaces.
  • Proven ability to motivate teams, build capability and foster a positive team culture.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Sound judgement and confidence making decisions in complex technical and operational environments.
  • A commitment to safety, continuous improvement and customer-focused service delivery.
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineering professionals.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), or eligibility to obtain registration.
  • Driver Licence Class C Car
