Job Search Safety & Scam Prevention
Recruitment scams in the digital era are increasingly widespread, yet they follow predictable patterns with clear warning signs. Taking a few minutes to recognize these red flags protects your personal safety and financial information far better than any superficial badge. Learn how to verify authentic hiring processes, identify common deception tactics, and safeguard your job search.
Critical Red Flags
The first three warnings below are absolute: genuine employers will never violate them. The following two require careful verification before taking any action.
Requests for Upfront Payment
Legitimate employers never charge candidates fees for application processing, training materials, onboarding equipment, or travel bookings under promise of reimbursement. Any requirement to send funds to an employer is the single clearest indicator of fraud.
Early Demands for Banking Details or OTPs
Bank account details and verification codes (OTPs) belong solely to formal payroll setup after a signed employment agreement — never during application or interview stages.
Instant Offers Without Substantive Interviews
Job offers extended without rigorous discussion, or interviews conducted exclusively via personal messaging platforms (Telegram, WhatsApp) without live voice or video evaluation, are common fraud tactics.
Suspicious or Free Webmail Domains
Corporate recruiters communicate from official company domains. Be cautious of recruiters using generic webmail (@gmail.com, @yahoo.com) or deceptive domains that subtly alter an established company’s name.
Unrealistic Compensation with Vague Responsibilities
Postings offering extraordinarily high compensation for minimal effort and loosely defined tasks are frequent indicators of questionable schemes. Confirm specific daily responsibilities before submitting personal information.
How Our Architecture Protects You
No CV storage
You can browse and apply without an account. If you choose to sign in, we store your Google identity, account settings, sessions, saved jobs, and tracker notes to provide account features. We do not ask you to upload a resume to KarieR.co.
Direct Routing to Official Sources
We index public listings from several sources, but cannot warrant the identity or internal practices of every hiring organization. Evaluate each opportunity and its application destination carefully.
Pre-Application Safety Checklist
- Inspect destination URLs to ensure they match the employer's genuine corporate website.
- Never transfer money for application processing, hardware, training, or travel deposits.
- Be wary of offers made exclusively through messaging apps without live structured interviews.
- Verify that compensation levels correlate with real market rates and defined job responsibilities.
Handling Questionable Postings
If you encounter a listing that appears fraudulent, misleading, or closed, you can report it through our feedback channels. Inactive listings removed at the primary source are automatically purged during subsequent index updates.
