The Role
The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia’s economic and national security landscape for decades to come.
The APS 6 Data Analyst provides data management, analytics and reporting services to support workforce assurance, capability development and training delivery across the Engineering and Technology Division. The role develops, maintains and analyses trusted, auditable workforce, competency and training datasets, delivering evidence-based insights that support workforce planning, capability management, organisational performance monitoring and strategic decision-making.
Working under broad direction, the APS6 Data Analyst develops data models, dashboards and reporting products that identify workforce trends, capability gaps, risks and emerging requirements. The position ensures data integrity, traceability and auditability, supporting governance, assurance and regulatory obligations. The role contributes to the establishment of scalable and integrated data systems that support workforce growth and future workforce management initiatives.
Key duties may include:
- Developing, maintaining & continuously improving workforce, competency, Nuclear Baseline, training and regulatory data assets.
- Undertaking complex analysis of workforce, capability, training & student data to identify trends, risks, capability gaps and emerging requirements.
- Producing dashboards, reports, visualisations & analytical products that support workforce planning, training delivery, organisational performance monitoring & executive decision-making.
- Applying workforce forecasting, scenario modelling & advanced analytical techniques to support workforce planning, capability development & training demand management.
- Developing and maintaining workforce, competency, career pathway, student & training data models & reporting frameworks.
- Monitoring training progression, completions, throughput, attrition & workforce readiness metrics.
- Ensuring the integrity, quality, traceability & governance of workforce and training information in accordance with legislative, policy, security & regulatory requirements.
- Supporting reporting against Nuclear Baseline requirements, workforce assurance obligations & other regulatory commitments.
- Collaborating with workforce planners, training managers, technical specialists, education providers and project teams to identify business requirements and deliver data-driven solutions.
- Providing specialist advice on workforce & training data, reporting methodologies, performance measures & analytical approaches.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of governance arrangements, reporting frameworks, business processes & supporting documentation.
- Supporting workforce capability assessments, competency management & evidence-based decision-making across the Agency.

- Under broad direction, the successful candidate will collaborate with workforce planners, technical specialists, training managers, education providers and senior stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose data solutions, reporting products and workforce insights.
- Demonstrated sound judgement, initiative and attention to detail, ensuring the integrity, traceability and governance of workforce and training information while supporting the delivery of NEST Technical Workforce objectives, Naval Nuclear Training Programs, and the Agency's long-term workforce capability and assurance requirements.
This role would suit a highly motivated data professional with experience in workforce analytics, learning management, capability management or human capital reporting, who can translate complex data into actionable insights that support both operational delivery and long-term workforce strategy.
