The Opportunity
At Icon Water, data plays a critical role in supporting the delivery of essential services to the Canberra community.
As a Data Engineer, you will help shape how data is transformed into meaningful insights that drive better business decisions across the organisation. Working as part of the Enterprise Architecture team, you will develop and maintain data solutions that enable trusted, accessible and consistent information for reporting, analytics and decision-making.
Partnering with stakeholders across operational, technical and corporate areas, you will contribute to the development of a modern data ecosystem that supports self-service analytics, improves data accessibility and strengthens organisational capability. This is an exciting opportunity to work with contemporary Microsoft data technologies while helping a purpose-driven organisation realise the value of its data assets.
What You'll Bring
You are a technically capable data professional who enjoys solving complex problems and turning data into valuable business outcomes. You can translate requirements into scalable, reusable data solutions that support reporting, analysis and operational decision-making.
You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy balancing technical excellence with practical outcomes. Whether partnering with business users, supporting analysts or improving data processes, you take pride in delivering high-quality solutions that help organisations make informed decisions and improve performance.
Success in this role will be supported by:
- Experience developing and maintaining Power BI dataflows, semantic models and reporting solutions.
- Strong capability in data extraction, transformation and modelling using technologies such as Power Query (M), SQL, Azure Data Factory and SSIS.
- Knowledge of dimensional modelling, star schema design and business intelligence best practices.
- Experience supporting self-service analytics and enabling business users to derive value from data.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Power Platform technologies and modern data engineering practices.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Tertiary qualifications in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline. Microsoft Power BI certifications will be highly regarded.
