Fabric Data Engineering Tech Lead

Salary: 195000

Tech Lead with deep expertise in Microsoft Fabric required to lead a team of Data Engineers in the build and implementation of data solutions.

You’ll be responsible for translating business requirements into well-designed technical solutions, leading delivery teams, working directly with clients and providing the technical leadership needed to deliver complex data projects successfully.

You’ll be the person the team and client turn to when the problem is complex, the solution isn't obvious, or a delivery risk needs to be addressed.

What you'll be doing:

• Lead the technical delivery of Microsoft Fabric data engineering and analytics solutions.
• Design and implement solutions across Fabric Pipelines, Lakehouse, Warehouse and Power BI.
• Develop complex data transformations using PySpark, applying best practices for performance, scalability and maintainability.
• Optimise Spark workloads through effective use of partitioning, capacity/compute and other Spark performance techniques.
• Write and optimise complex SQL.
• Design robust and scalable data models to support analytics and reporting requirements.
• Take business and functional requirements and translate them into clear technical architectures and solution designs.
• Communicate technical solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Lead and coordinate a delivery team, providing technical direction, mentoring and support.
• Work closely with Project Managers, delivery teams and clients to ensure projects remain on track and aligned to agreed outcomes.
• Identify delivery, technical and architectural risks early and develop practical mitigation strategies.
• Act as the technical escalation point for complex functional and technical issues.
• Challenge assumptions constructively and provide clients with informed technical advice.
• Help establish and promote best practices across data engineering, architecture, development and delivery.
• Contribute hands-on to delivery — this is a technical leadership role, not a purely people-management position.

What we're looking for:

• Strong data engineering background, with extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric.
• Strong delivery experience across Fabric Pipelines, Lakehouse, Warehouse and Power BI.
• Advanced PySpark capability, including complex transformation logic and performance tuning.
• Strong SQL skills.
• Strong knowledge of data modelling and data warehouse design.
• The ability to develop architecture and functional designs from business requirements.
• Proven experience leading technical delivery teams.
• Strong stakeholder management and client-facing communication skills.
• The confidence to advise clients, challenge assumptions and explain complex technical concepts clearly.
• A proactive approach to delivery, with demonstrated experience identifying risks and issues early and putting effective mitigation strategies in place.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take ownership of complex technical challenges.
