We are looking for a capable and customer-focused ICT Support Specialist to become a trusted point of support for Norship and the wider Varley Group. Based in Cairns, you will help keep our teams connected, productive and secure by resolving technical issues, supporting essential systems and delivering a responsive, practical ICT service.
This is a varied, hands-on opportunity for someone who enjoys solving problems, helping people and taking ownership of issues from first contact through to resolution. Your work will have a visible impact across a multi-site business supporting Defence, maritime and commercial operations.
About the Role
Reporting to the Senior System Administrator, you will deliver reliable day-to-day support across hardware, software, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, user accounts and network-related issues. You will work independently, collaborate with teams across the business and help ensure ICT services remain secure, effective and fit for operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide responsive technical support for hardware, software and network-related issues.
- Troubleshoot Microsoft 365, Active Directory and other business systems.
- Install, configure and maintain computers, printers and peripheral equipment.
- Set up and manage user accounts, permissions, access rights and mailboxes.
- Support employee onboarding through account setup, equipment preparation and user guidance.
- Assist with ICT security controls, system updates and routine maintenance.
- Maintain clear records of support requests, actions and resolutions.
- Manage help desk tickets within agreed service targets.
- Support mobile, landline, domain, web-hosting and ICT equipment requirements.
- Identify ICT risks, take appropriate action and comply with Varley Group policies, procedures and standards.
About You
You are a practical and approachable ICT professional who communicates clearly, stays calm under pressure and enjoys helping people get back to work. Organised and solutions-focused, you can balance competing requests, work with minimal supervision and follow each issue through to a complete and well-documented resolution.
Essential Requirements
- Formal qualification in Information Technology or a related field.
- At least two years’ experience as an IT Support Specialist or in a similar role.
- Strong Microsoft 365 administration experience, including Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online and OneDrive.
- Sound knowledge of Active Directory management and user administration.
- Experience supporting Windows desktop and server environments and WAN environments.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability across hardware, software and network issues.
- Understanding of cyber security principles, information security best practice and relevant protocols.
- Strong organisation and prioritisation skills, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities across multiple locations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to understand and support Norship’s Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) obligations and Defence cyber security requirements.
- Australian Citizenship.
- Ability to successfully complete a National Police Check to obtain Defence security clearances.
- Current driver’s licence.
