IT PROJECT MANAGER - HELP PROTECT CRITICAL WATER INFRASTRUCTURE
Toowoomba Regional Council is building a specialist team dedicated to strengthening the security, reliability and resilience of the operational technology (OT) systems that support our water and wastewater services.
We are seeking an experienced IT Project Manager to lead the delivery of major OT network and cybersecurity uplift projects that will help safeguard essential services relied upon by communities across the region.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of project management, critical infrastructure, cybersecurity and technology, delivering projects that have a direct impact on public services and community safety.
What You'll Be Doing
As the IT Project Manager - Water, you'll coordinate and oversee a portfolio of OT network and cybersecurity projects from planning through to successful delivery.
You'll:
- Lead the delivery of complex technology, infrastructure or cybersecurity projects.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, risks, procurement activities and reporting.
- Coordinate technical specialists, contractors and external vendors.
- Drive stakeholder engagement, governance and change management activities.
- Manage procurement processes, contract administration and supplier performance.
- Provide clear reporting to project sponsors and senior leaders.
- Ensure projects deliver agreed outcomes, benefits and operational readiness.
While you'll work closely with technical specialists, this is primarily a project leadership role rather than a hands-on technical position.
About You
We're looking for a confident project professional who can bring people together, manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in complex environments.
You may come from backgrounds such as:
- IT or technology project management
- Cybersecurity projects
- Infrastructure or utilities
- Operational technology (OT)
- Engineering or industrial systems
- Government or critical infrastructure programs
To be successful, you'll have:
- Experience delivering significant technology, infrastructure or cybersecurity projects.
- Strong project governance, reporting and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience managing procurement, vendors and contracts.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies such as PMBOK, PRINCE2 or Agile.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to work effectively in evolving and complex environments.
Qualifications in Project Management, Information Technology, Business or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
